Sandurot Festival 2017

Street Dancing parade & Showdown

Sandurot Festival 2017-Street Dancing Parade 05

The Sandurot Festival 2017 is celebrated in the month of September instead of November, as promised by the Tourism Office of Dumaguete City. The celebration of the Sandurot Festival 2017 was held with the highlight events of the street dancing parade and the showdown competition last Saturday, September 16, 2017.

The festivity day started with prayers, national anthem and of course a “short” opening show. A theatrical play was presented at the boulevard at the presence of start celebrity Angel Aquino, City Mayor Felipe Antonio “Ipe” Remollo, tourism heads, and other locals and guests.

Sandurot Festival Street Dancing Parade

After the gathering and the opening show, it was time to finally start the street dancing parade. For this year’s street dancing music, the organizers thought it would be best to have the same festival music (on speakers) to be played during their parade.

Although it makes sense to have the uniform music for a competition, hearing it twice or thrice is enough for a single festival song. Disregarding the music, the bystanders and spectators were watching the parade regardless of the music loop. The colorful festival costumes and graceful dancing took the music to another level; and was quite enjoyable.

Sandurot Festival Showdown

For the showdown portion of the festivity, the competition was held at Quezon Park. Hundreds of locals and guests crowded the park. After weeks of hard practice and patience, the performers made their final best dance and was rewarded with the supportive cheers from the audience. The colorful costumes and props of the contingents added a certain enjoyment to the actual dancing of the different groups.

During the whole week of the Sandurot Festival celebration, the street dancing and showdown were the best parts of the whole event.
