This settlement was known earlier as Hinoba-an, a Jimalalud barrio. It was renamed as La Libertad by the people to show its significance when the local inhabitants led an uprising against the brigands that used to raid from the north during those times. The locals also regarded the La Libertad as their symbol of liberty and freedom from the Tulisanes. ‘La Libertad’, the name, is also legendary for celebrating the acts of resistance of the local guerrillas when the Second World War was on. The municipality had a rural expanse. However, other than serving as a municipality, it became known as a parish in 1935. It has also seen many social and economic activities.
