Apo Island
Apo Island has everything that a perfect beach vacation can offer. It has one of the most amazing sites for scuba diving in the form of a coral reef in the Philippines. The place called Negros Oriental is a wonderful stop for visitors who are not scuba divers.
Getting to Apo Island
Visitors, while getting to this island via boat, love the vegetation covering much of the island, the transparent water, and the white stone beach. This small paradise is located 25 kilometers to Dumaguete’s south. The island has a few resorts although most visitors can get more comfortable in other accommodations. It is better to tour during the day, due to nocturnal restrictions on electricity. When they enter the island, visitors have to pay a small fee. It is used for keeping marine sanctuaries operational and clean.
Visitors can go for swimming, sunbath and diving on warm beaches or take nature hikes to the Apo Island Lighthouse which is at the island’s peak point – offering a nice spot to shoot lovely photos. On Wednesdays, visitors can visit the Malatapay Market soon after sunrise or go to Apo Island with a local outrigger boat ride.
Scuba diving and Snorkeling at Apo Island
Although there are many things to do, most visitors come here to experience the underwater world. They can scuba dive or snorkel among the coral reefs. Divers can find many colorful marine animals and scenes underwater. Apo Island is a bustling, small city with marine animals such as green sea turtles and more than 600 fish species. This is a marine sanctuary and one can participate in various activities that offer a different experience from visiting historical sites, shopping and city tours. It is worth exploring the island for 1 – 2 days during a tour of the Philippines.
